| Roman Ruins
Recently, the Amateur Archaeology Society has unearthed a wonderful Mosaic floor in the field in front of the farm house. This dates back to 400 - 600 AD. The villa is believed to be that of a wealthy Roman merchant, and extends to quite a large area of the field. During excavation in the summer of 2003, the vibrant colours of this unique and exciting mosaic, which covered the floor in one of the rooms of the house, came to light. A burial ground was also discovered on the perimeter of the area where the villa is situated.
The digging extended to quite a large area, but unfortunately due to the lack of funding it has been covered with earth and left. |
